Independent Monitoring Boards perform a vital watchdog role on behalf of Ministers and the general public, by providing an independent oversight of prisons, immigration removal centres and short-term holding facilities at various airports around the UK.
Board members monitor those being detained and ensure that all relevant rules and conditions are complied with.
